AIRPORT FACILITIES
Valkaria Airport has two intersecting runways. These runways are 9/27 which will soon become 10/28 and runway 14/32 our primary runway. These runways are both asphalt and are 4000 feet long by 75 feet wide. The Airport has an administration building that houses the manager and staff. The airport has 24 full size and 4 half size nested T-hangars. There are numerous paved and grass tie-downs available. The Airport has a self service fuel farm area. There is a pavilion with picnic tables where pilot’s can kick back and have a cold drink. The Airport is equipped with a Super Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) for weather and airport information.
GENERAL AVIATION
Valkaria Airport serves the needs of the business and recreational flying public including power parachutes, gliders, light sport aircraft, gyrocopters experimental aircraft, flight training and agricultural spraying services. Airport traffic is comprised of a mix of flight training, local personal flying, transient fuel stops and Brevard Mosquito Control District flight operations. The current Airport Reference Code (ARC) for the airport is B-II.
There are 63 based aircraft of all types, of which 49 are FAA-registered aircraft, 9 ultralights and 5 under construction. The fleet is comprised of 44 single-engine aircraft, one of which is turbine powered, 3 twin-engine aircraft, and 1 light helicopter. Twenty two aircraft are tied down on the expedient apron and the remaining aircraft are housed in T-hangars. The airport presently reports a waiting list of approximately 170 people for T-hangars. The airport recently built 20 new T-hangars with a pilot briefing room and office space expected to be finished in June 2009 with other hangar projects starting shortly thereafter.
The airport currently has no aviation training activities on the field and it is not connected with any aviation training programs conducted by any of the local colleges, universities, or technical schools. However, independent flight instructors and aircraft mechanics do operate on the field. Current Operational activity as detailed in the recent Master Plan update shows Annual Operations between 33,398 and 34,675 for the year of 2011.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
The Airport currently has a focus on general recreational activities and would support additional users in this category in the future including light sport aircraft. Current recreational use of the facility includes an active Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter (CH 1288). Currently half of the hangars are occupied with kit aircraft, some under construction.
The Airport is growing and could support air taxi operations. The desired investment in facility upgrades including pavements, hangars, taxiways, approach aids, lighting and security with a full service FBO and/or other aviation specialty services. The Habitat Golf Course is located on airport property.
